Sliding Structure

Sliding Structure er en utstilling om former og omforming. De bevegelige formene i utstillingens verk skaper en strøm av dynamiske øyeblikk med flyktige variasjoner. Utstillingen består av tre verk.
Utstillingens hovedverk Sliding Structure: it er en stor mekanisk installasjon der et stykke tekstil blir trukket og omformet av liner. Installasjonen er bygget i nært samarbeid med styringsingeniør Gert-Ove Wågstam.
Videoverket Glipa introduserer ulike lydverdener gjennom stiliserte former (gliper) i billedsporet.
Textskulptur består av fire bokstavobjekter som danner sirklende skygger av ord i omgivelsene.
Installasjonen Sliding Structure: it er basert på to former: teltet og banneret. Begge har lett gjenkjennelige former, selv i forskjellige utgaver. Liner trekker og omformer tekstilen i en kontinuerlig prosess mellom bannerform og teltform. Lyden av mekanismen blir manipulert og forsterket ut i rommet. Det brukes også lys for å understreke den konstante omformingen.
Det tynne laget med tekstil som teltet og banneret har til felles, definerer to grunnleggende forskjellige rom. Mens teltet skaper og beskytter det private rom, etablerer banneret et rom for kommunikasjon i det offentlig.
I Sliding Structure: it reduseres formene til tegn. De blir forenklet til grunnkonstruksjoner og generelle ideer. Men tekstil stykket i konstant omforming, forblir belastet med fortellinger, referanser, minner og personlige skjebner.
Utstillingen åpner fredag 29. August kl 19:00 på ROM for kunst og arkitektur i Oslo.
Liv Strand Biografi:
Liv Strand er en svensk kunstner født i 1971. Hun bor og arbeider i Stockholm.
Strands arbeider tar ofte utgangspunkt i romlige problemstillinger. Hun utforsker hvordan mennesker deler fellesrom og studerer friksjonen som skapes av deres tilpasninger i rommet.
Hun arbeider med mekaniske skulpturer, ofte der lyd er et resultat av bevegelse.
Lydinstallasjoner, eksperimentelle radioprogrammer, prosjekter som krever publikums deltagelse er alt del av hennes kunstneriske virke.
Liv Strand var en av initiativtakerne til lydkunstprosjektet LARM (
www.larm-festival.se
), som i en
intens periode mellom 2004 og 2008 laget en omfattende oversikt over kvinner i lydkunsten. Dette resulterte i bok, arkiv, CD utgivelse, utstilling, seminar og helaftens konsert.
Liv Strand har tidligere hatt to separatutstillinger i Norge: UKS i 2000 og Østfold Kunstnersenter
i 2002. Hennes arbeider har også hvert med i flere gruppeutstillinger i Norge. I mai 2008 utsmykket Liv Strand Lidarende Barnehage i Trondheim.
Liv Strand har mottatt støtte fra Sveriges Bildkonstnärsfond til prosjektet.

Sliding Structure

Sliding Structure is an exhibition about shape and reshaping. It is based on the ideas of shapes of tents and banners, both recognizable forms with variable appearances. They might be disparate in their exterior shape and are foremost determined to be either a banner or a tent through the way they are used. The thin layer of a tent and a banner is a form that provides a boundary between the public and the private, or forms the place where a message might be announced in a public space.
A tent and a banner are shaped from cloth or other thin, simple material and they are both flexible and portable. They are also relatively cheap which makes them occur in a wide variety of versions. They are two forms found in some of the changeable and movable courses of human life, as on vacation or escape, as well in protesting or advertising and a number of other activities. They differ in the way that a tent is used to separate and protect a more private space, whereas a banner is a space for communication where a social/political situation makes a message meaningful .
In Sliding Structure , the shapes are concentrated to signs, they are refined into pure, basic constructions, recognizable in the flux of mass-media. In the exhibition they become general shapes, shapes where a number of specific narratives and personal fates and fortunes are hiding.
The exhibition is a work on multi-media as a mechanical, spatial process.
A big mechanical installation built in cooperation with steering engineer Gert-Ove Wågstam will be presented and also a stylized video and a piece with text-sculptures .
The exhibition opens at ROM for kunst og arkitektur in Oslo August 29, 2008.
Biography Liv Strand
Liv Strand is a Swedish artist born 1971, living in Stockholm .
Her artwork takes a starting point in spatial issues and more closely in how people share space. She is interested in the possibility of different claims in common space, with the friction that comes out of mutual adaptation. Mechanical sculptures where sound is a product of movement as well as sound installations, experimental radio programs and participatory projects are part of her artistic practice.
Liv Strand is one of the initiators of sound art project LARM, www.larm-festival.se that worked in an intense period 2004 - 2008 with a survey of women in sound art, producing a book, an archive, a CD, a festival, an exhibition, a seminar and a one evening concert.
A public art piece was installed in May 2008 at a children nursery centre in Trondheim . It consists of a drawing of stairs and circles made of a chain of silicone encapsulated LEDs. The piece has 5 different light programs that control speed, intensity of light and what part of the LED drawing is being lit.
